K-5 English Teacher Julie Favero
My name is Julie Favero. I have over twenty years of experience teaching grades Kindergarten through sixth grade. I taught in the Lake Oswego School District for twenty years and have been a substitute teacher for the last five years of my career. It is my mission to instill a love of learning in my students. I teach with a passion so that my students develop into lifelong learners.
Ever since I started teaching, I have been passionate in my commitment to three things: maximizing individual student performance, creating an inclusive community, and instilling a sense of self-worth among all students. I have dedicated my career to each of these pursuits.
Reading English is an important part of language learning because it helps students develop other related skills like grammar, vocabulary, and writing. Reading allows language learners to explore topics that they love and stories that engage them.
I offer a comprehensive course in English, including a study of literature. I will introduce classic books and provide an in depth study of characters, setting, plot and theme. Students will come away with a solid background of which they can build upon.
Secondly, I provide a reading curriculum with an emphasis on phonics, sight words, and decoding strategies. Students will read fluently and comprehend text, developing a wide range of vocabulary, grammar, and correct language structures.
To conclude, the writing component of the program will focus on the writing modes of persuasive, narrative, expository, and descriptive. Students will gain pre writing skills, using graphic organizers, research and outlining. Finally, they will follow the process into the publishing phase, learning how to proofread, edit and revise.
Overall, the curriculum provides English language support to develop reading, writing, listening and speaking skills.
